Community gardens are more than just good for the environment, they build welcoming, safer communities by providing an inclusive meeting area where all ages and cultural backgrounds can come together to share experiences and knowledge. If you feel more areas should include a community gardens to educate people on where food comes from and provide opportunity for people to engage with their food system then join the this site and help a community build their own garden.

Delmarva Discovery Center

Explore the rich history of Delmarva through artifacts and scenes, featuring the traditions and livelihoods of Delmarva natives. Also, learn about the lifestyle and characteristics of a variety of species that are native to Delmarva.

Diakonia

Homeless people are 4 times more likely to suffer from some form of mental illness. More than a shelter, Diakonia strives to address the root causes of homelessness through a variety of programs and initiatives. For those who are in danger of becoming homeless, Diakonia offers counseling, guidance and assistance in accessing a wide variety of support programs.

Eastern Shore Pregnancy Center

Salisbury, MD

Offering each woman and her family the chance to meet their newest member in utero, Eastern Shore Pregnancy Center offers free limited obstetric ultrasounds, as part of their many services for women with unplanned pregnancies. While it is impossible to pinpoint the full effectiveness many mothers have decided against abortion the moment they met their child through an ultrasound, at a pregnancy center like the one located right here in Salisbury.

Easter Service Preparation

Oak Ridge Church

Easter is Christianity’s oldest and most important holiday and more Americans search for a “church” around Easter than at any other time of the year. In Luke 15:10 the bible says, “there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents”. Here at Oak Ridge over 200 people have given their lives to Jesus at our Easter Services the last three years. Preparations began months ago to help welcome the over 2000 guests expected this Easter and we need to add the finishing touches to those plans .

HALO

From it beginnings in 2007,  HALO hasn’t waivered in its commitment to minister to the homeless right here in its community. Providing meals, shelter, case management wrapped in the HOPE that can be found in the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Each day, it is their desire to “Love ’em like Jesus.” They continue to seek God’s direction in all we do and to be just a small part of bringing about life change.

Project:  Painting the café walls and the café bathroom walls.  We will remove any pictures from the wall and patch any holes in the wall to have it ready for painting. Sorting through clothing and linen donations. 

Maintaining Active Citizens MAC Inc

Salisbury, MD

MAC Inc. is one of the five oldest Area Agencies on Aging in the United States. Founded in 1972, MAC, is charged with helping older adults live with independence and dignity in their homes and communities. MAC offers an abundance of services to help more active seniors live their lives to the fullest, such as helping retirees find meaningful volunteer opportunities and helping seniors to improve their physical fitness and to take charge of their health. MAC has a network of senior centers, where participants can enjoy recreational activities, fitness and educational programs, and the company of other seniors.

Making Mercy Mats for the Homeless

Plarn Mats provide a comfortable cushion for homeless people to place blankets or sleeping bags. Because they're made of plastic, they're easy to clean and use in wet conditions without water seeping into the sleeping bag.

Maryland Coastal Bays

The Maryland Coastal Bays Program (MCBP) is one of 28 National Estuary Programs (NEP) across the country that receives EPA funding in order to work toward the restoration and protection of “estuaries of National significance.” The Program is a grassroot, multi-stakeholder collaboration working toward meeting this goal. The Maryland Coastal Bays watershed is an impressive coastal resource; it supports abundant wildlife and a wealth of aquatic resources in a relaxing rural atmosphere unique to the mid-Atlantic region.

Pocomoke River State Park

Snow Hill, MD

Tucked away on Maryland's lower eastern shore, Pocomoke River State Park is well known for cypress swamps that border the Pocomoke River. The river originates in the Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware and flows southwesterly 45 miles to the Chesapeake Bay. The park provides a base for a vast array of outdoor and tourist activities including fishing, biking, birding, boating, hiking and more. Amenities at the park include camping, mini cabins, boat launch, picnic areas, playgrounds, picnic shelters and a swimming pool. Both portions of the park are also centrally located within 18,000 acres of the Pocomoke State Forest and its vast trail system.

The Salisbury Zoo

The Salisbury Zoo provides this wonderful family opportunity for FREE since 1954. The Zoo now provides naturalistic enclosures for species native to North, Central and South America. The Salisbury Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums.

Salisbury City Park and Trail

The Salisbury City Park is located in the heart of the city on each side of the east prong of the Wicomico River.  The park lands are bounded by East Main Street, Snow Hill Road, North Park Drive, South Park Drive, and Beaglin Park Drive. On the park’s western end are two distinctive structures erected during the early 1930s; an octagonal bandstand and arched foot bridge over Beaverdam Creek, both listed as a historic property by the Maryland Historic Trust.

Wicomico Humane Society

The Humane Society of Wicomico County is dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk animals, and matching pets with their forever families while providing premier temporary care and shelter for the animals in our community.

Project:  Clean out storage shed; dust, clean floors, clean windows in the lobby; power wash the front of the building and sidewalks, lay stones in play yards, wash staff vehicles (inside and out), rake play yard, walk dogs after 11:00 a.m. if needed.  Help with any other areas of need as requested by the shelter staff.

Worcester County Humane Society

Berlin, MD

Each year over 8 million cats and dogs enter shelters in the United States and 70% of those are euthanized. The Worcester County Humane Society is a nonprofit, NO KILL animal shelter serving all of Worcester County and surrounding areas. Their mission is to provide food, vet care, and unconditional love until a suitable, loving and forever home is found.

Women Supporting Women

Oak Ridge Church

Breast cancer is the one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among American women. 1 in 8 will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime and 85% of breast cancers occur in those with no family history. Pillows help elevate pain and pressure from the incision sites of women who are currently being treated for breast cancer.
