Coastal Hospice

When someone you love has a serious terminal illness, it can be all you think about, which can be mentally, physically, and spiritually exhausting. For four decades, the Coastal Hospice staff have been frontline workers, serving patients and families when they are at their most vulnerable. Coastal Hospice’s team of nurses, doctors, nursing aides, social workers, spiritual care providers and grief counselors can help you through it. Most of their services are free to your loved one through Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance. No one is ever turned away, regardless of their ability to pay. Coastal Hospice’s first board, took inspiration for their mission and logo from writer and philosopher G.K. Chesterton: “We’re all in the same boat in stormy sea, and we owe each other a terrible loyalty.”

Community gardens are more than just good for the environment, they build welcoming, safer communities by providing an inclusive meeting area where all ages and cultural backgrounds can come together to share experiences and knowledge. If you feel more areas should include a community gardens to educate people on where food comes from and provide opportunity for people to engage with their food system then join the this site and help a community build their own garden.

More than 50 percent of residents residing in nursing homes and assisted living facilities have no close relatives, and 46 percent have no living children. A staggering number of them, even those with family, spend weekends, birthdays and even holidays by themselves, alone in their memories. The residents of John B. Parsons Assisted Living Facility will receive a caring touch and personally created card.

Diakonia

Homeless people are 4 times more likely to suffer from some form of mental illness. More than a shelter, Diakonia strives to address the root causes of homelessness through a variety of programs and initiatives. For those who are in danger of becoming homeless, Diakonia offers counseling, guidance and assistance in accessing a wide variety of support programs.

Eastern Shore Pregnancy Center

Offering each woman and her family the chance to meet their newest member in utero, Eastern Shore Pregnancy Center offers free limited obstetric ultrasounds, as part of their many services for women with unplanned pregnancies. While it is impossible to pinpoint the full effectiveness many mothers have decided against abortion the moment they met their child through an ultrasound, at a pregnancy center like the one located right here in Salisbury.

Junior Achievement

The Perdue Henson Junior Achievement Center will provide experiential learning of financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship to more than 10,000 students each year. This 25,000 sq. ft. regional facility, located at the Oak Ridge Commons in Salisbury, will serve students from six counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and one county from the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

ORC Easter Service Preparation

Easter is Christianity’s oldest and most important holiday and more Americans search for a “church” around Easter than at any other time of the year. In Luke 15:10 the bible says, “there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents”. Here at Oak Ridge over 200 people have given their lives to Jesus at our Easter Services the last three years. Preparations began months ago to help welcome the over 2000 guests expected this Easter and we need to add the finishing touches to those plans.

HALO: Homeless Shelter

From it beginnings in 2007,  HALO hasn’t waivered in its commitment to minister to the homeless right here in its community. Providing meals, shelter, case management wrapped in the HOPE that can be found in the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Each day, it is their desire to “Love ’em like Jesus.” They continue to seek God’s direction in all we do and to be just a small part of bringing about life change.

HALO: Bargain Center

HALO believes in the importance of restoring dignity to those who need it most. Guests that are staying in the shelter are given “HALO Dollars” when they visit our Resource and Respite Center. They can use these dollars to purchase needed clothes, shoes, or other necessities. The graduates of their Journey of Hope life change program receive “Home at Last” HALO dollars to help them purchase start up needs for their new home. For every $2.10 spent at the bargain center a meal is ensured for someone who is homeless and hungry. For every $25.00 spent at the bargain center a place to sleep, shower and meal for a mother and their child is guaranteed.

Maintaining Active Citizens MAC Inc

MAC Inc. is one of the five oldest Area Agencies on Aging in the United States. Founded in 1972, MAC, is charged with helping older adults live with independence and dignity in their homes and communities. MAC offers an abundance of services to help more active seniors live their lives to the fullest, such as helping retirees find meaningful volunteer opportunities and helping seniors to improve their physical fitness and to take charge of their health. MAC has a network of senior centers, where participants can enjoy recreational activities, fitness and educational programs, and the company of other seniors.

Maryland Coastal Bays

The Maryland Coastal Bays Program (MCBP) is one of 28 National Estuary Programs (NEP) across the country that receives EPA funding in order to work toward the restoration and protection of “estuaries of National significance.” The Program is a grassroot, multi-stakeholder collaboration working toward meeting this goal. The Maryland Coastal Bays watershed is an impressive coastal resource; it supports abundant wildlife and a wealth of aquatic resources in a relaxing rural atmosphere unique to the mid-Atlantic region.

The problem goes deeper than what you see on the beaches. Scientists estimate that more than 8 million tons of plastic enter our ocean every year.

The Salvation Army Richard Hazel Boys & Girls Club

The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of America creates some of the most exciting and memorable moments for youth. Programs include spiritual, character, leadership, and arts development. Various sports are offered throughout the year, including flag football, t-ball, softball, and basketball. From June-August, the pool is open daily for children attending summer camp. The pool is also open to the public during specific hours.

Wicomico Humane Society

Worcester County Humane Society

The Worcester County Humane Society is a nonprofit, NO KILL animal shelter serving all of Worcester County and surrounding areas. Women Supporting Women

Breast cancer is the one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among American women. 1 in 8 will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime and 85% of breast cancers occur in those with no family history. Pillows help elevate pain and pressure from the incision sites of women who are currently being treated for breast cancer.
